WORST TRIBUTE CAR INVESTMENT EVER? EARNHARDT INTIMIDATOR CAMARO! $40K IN '01! WHAT'S IT WORTH TODAY?

While leaving a somewhat strange Crosley Car Show click link: My eye caught what appeared to be a nice looking 4th gen camaro pulling up to park. Talk about leaving the twilight zone into an era that some will argue was the best years for the Chevrolet Camaro. I personally believe the first gen were the best with the ’69 as the greatest looking of all time but that may have to do something with my age. Upon further inspection I noticed this wasn’t any ordinary ’01 SS Camaro by the badge below the SS emblem but the Dale Earnhardt Intimidator SS which is 1 of 83 special edition dealership cars commissioned by NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, built by GMMG and sold by Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet in Newton, North Carolina. Not knowing much about the car itself the owner showed me around pointing out all the options and paperwork. What astounded me was the original price of $40K in ’01 for a close to 400hp car that from what I’ve read turn’s high 12’s in the quarter mile. Now don’t get me wrong, I think this car is cool but this got me thinking to what the 5th or 6th gen camaros have to offer today at what seems like a high price to most. In reality if you figure the $40K price tag in ’01 for this Camaro would roughly translate into $55K today so you would be approaching the cost of a new 650hp ’17 ZL1 Camaro! So all that being said, how does this Camaro with the provenance of Dale Earnhardt plus his untimely death with all the options rate as far as investment in appreciation values compared to other muscle cars?
