Tips For Detailing Your Vehicle

You remember when you first picked up your vehicle at the dealer, all shiny inside and out. Now it's gotten dirty from everyday use and climbing in and out of it. How can you get that new car feeling back again? There are many professional services that you can use to have your car detailed and get it looking like new again. However these professional services can be pricey. In today's economy everyone wants to save a buck. Here are some tips to help you get that new car feeling back again without it costing you next month's paycheck.

First you'll need to collect some supplies. Having everything in one place before you start cuts down on the time that you need to spend detailing by eliminating last minute runs to the store because you ran out of something or you forgot to grab it. You'll need a bunch of cleaning cloths, some interior cleaner such as Armor All, a bucket for soapy water, soft bristle cleaning brushes, a vacuum, paper towels, window cleaner and some cotton swabs such as Q-tips. In addition, you'll want some sort of trash bag or trash to put the used stuff in after you're through.

So now that you have everything gathered and within reach, it's time to get started. Obviously the first step will be to make sure all of the trash is removed from the vehicle. Once that step is done you'll want to start with the most time consuming part of the project first. Taking the interior cleaner and the Q-tips, clean in all those little spots around the radio, ashtray, dash panel, ignition and so on. Dirt and dust collects in these areas and it is not easily removed with a quick wipe down.

After you are finished with that part, take the mild soapy water and clean all of the surfaces in the vehicle including the dash, steering wheel, console, door panels and so on. This removes the dirt that has been building there since since you purchased the car and restores the colors by removing the grime. Grab the vacuum and clean everything that you can with that including the sun visors, floors, seats and ceiling.

Yes, the ceiling attractions dust and dirt as well and can contribute to a smelly vehicle on the inside especially if you or any of your passengers are smokers. Now grab the window cleaner and clean each window thoroughly. Make sure there are no streaks by cleaning a second time as well. You might consider using soapy water on all the windows as well to remove any heavy dirt that might be lurking there.

After you've vacuumed and polished and cleaned, you can spray the interior with any number of scents available for the car interior. There is even a new car smell interior air freshener that can be used to completely restore that new car feeling that you had when you purchased the car. Make sure your floor mats are clean and dry and put them back in the vehicle after vacuuming as well.

Now that the interior is clean and polished, consider a good wash of the exterior at the car wash. Spring for the extra wash and wax to ensure a thorough cleaning of every square inch.
