The 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt will be available in a choice of two exterior colors when it goes on sale this summer: Dark Highland Green and Shadow Black. The former color matches the paint color of the 1967 Ford Mustang 390 GT driven by Steve McQueen’s character, Frank Bullitt, in the 1968 film Bullitt. The vintage car, incidentally, just resurfaced and was shown to the public.

The other color? Well, we’re still trying to figure out where that fits in. Maybe it’s a reference to the black Dodge Charger that Bullitt’s Mustang ardently pursued in the film. Or maybe it’s an ode to the first Ford Model T, which was famously available in any color, as long as it it’s black. Or maybe it’s just because not everyone wants a green car.
Whatever the reason, the Mustang Bullitt looks absolutely fetching in Shadow Black. These images mark our first sighting of the special-edition pony car in the color, and it definitely makes the Mustang Bullitt look more sinister. The monotone look, including the 19-inch torque-thrust-style wheels, is only compromised by the Bullit’s red-painted brake calipers and dashes of chrome around the wheels, side windows, and grille. Still, as much as we like this one, we can’t imagine purchasing a Mustang Bullitt in anything but Highland Green.

No matter the color, every Mustang Bullitt is powered by the 5.0-liter V-8 from the Mustang GT that gets an intake manifold cribbed from the Shelby GT350, 87-millimeter throttle bodies, and a recalibrated powertrain control module, netting an additional 20 horsepower for a total of 480 hp. A six-speed manual stirred with a cue-ball-style shift knob is the sole transmission available.

Ford has yet to release pricing for the 2019 Mustang Bullitt, but we expect it to command a few thousand more than a Mustang GT Premium with the GT Performance package, which costs $44,085.
