The Roush Mustang of Bill Elliot and Ricky Rudd finished 5th overall, second in class behind the 7-Eleven team car of Scott Pruett and Bruce Jenner.
This was the last year for the full 5.2 mile course. The Roush Mustangs were turning laps as fast as the Porsche 917s and Ferrari 512s had back in 1970.
