Chevrolet Express Buyers Guide

The Chevrolet Van, based on the Corvair chassis, was produced from 1961 through to 1996 when the need for an overhaul to bring the Van up to date saw the launch of the Chevrolet Express in 1997. The new Chevrolet Express soon started to push its nearest rival, the Ford Econoline Series, in both sales and capabilities.

This is a van that is a functional vehicle first and foremost and manages to be a reasonably inexpensive yet multi-functional van capable of hard work. The first vans were launched with both V6 and V8 engines, dual front airbags and ABS brakes.

Small revisions were made from 1997 however 2003 saw major revisions made including a greater variety of V8 engines and the introduction of a four wheel drive version. Improvements were made to the interior and exterior cosmetics which when added to the mechanical upgrades made for an even better Van capable of a work rate that bypassed the competition.

The Chevrolet Express is available in three trim levels-the 1500, 2500 and 3500. The three levels and multiple combinations of features and options include the ability to provide transportation for up to 15 passengers in the extended version. This makes it a must for anyone who needs a vehicle capable of transporting a wide selection of materials, tools and essential equipment.

Currently the Express comes in a standard LS trim and the LT trim – providing a more comfortable and convenient experience that includes power features and climate control. In 2007 the 2500 model was dropped from the Chevrolet Express range along with the V6 engines. The engines were now V8 formations only and a flexible fuel version, 5.3 liter giving 295 BHP.

The Chevrolet Express is, in my opinion, a sleek looking vehicle for a large Van and the power features, AWD option and ABS brakes are all strong selling points. The NHTSA gave a five star front impact rating in 2007. Fuel economy could be better but apart from that it has along with the GMC Savana has cornered almost 50% of the market.

If you are looking for a van as a powerful mover or a great passenger vehicle the Chevrolet Express can complete both roles with ease.
