Preventing an Accident When You Skid

Driving in inclement weather can be very hazardous and if you do not want anything to happen to your cheap Toyota you need to learn how to be safe. While it is easier said than done at times, avoiding a skid in your Toyota Sprinter can save you a lot of headaches and a nasty accident to boot. Skids are typically caused by driver error, and while most skids do not result in an accident they can be the cause of it. Skidding can happen on any road surface, but the likelihood of it happening increases 50 to 75 percent when the roads are wet or icy.

What are the main causes of skids in a vehicle? You could be driving too fast or accelerate too suddenly, such as when you are trying to get through a changing light. You could hit the brakes too fast or too suddenly to avoid, say, hitting another car or animal. All of these conditions are adversely affected by the road conditions at the time you go into the skid and how fast you are going. If you want to make sure your Toyota Sprinter does not wind up in a ditch you need to make sure you drive defensively and responsibly, sticking to the speed limit, giving yourself plenty of time to stop, and slowing down in bad weather conditions.

When your car goes into a skid, it can happen in three different ways. Let us take a look at how the skid happens and what you need to remember to do to get your cheap Toyota car back out of it safely. We are going to assume that your vehicle is a manual transmission.

Front wheel skid this type of skid happens when you under steer your vehicle. Instead of turning properly, the car will continue to go in a straight line. To compensate, you should push in the clutch and take your foot off of the gas pedal. Allow the car to coast and turn the wheel into the direction of the skid. Once you have regained control of your car you can release the clutch after downshifting into the appropriate gear and then continue on your way in a responsible and safe manner.

Rear wheel skid a rear wheel skid happens when you over steer your car. Once again, do not hit the brakes and engage the clutch. Take your foot off of the gas pedal and then turn the wheel into the direction the rear tires are sliding. This should take you out of the skid and give you traction on the road once again. Once you have regained control of the car, release the clutch after downshifting into an appropriate gear.

Four wheel skid four wheel skids typically happen when your wheels lock up for some reason, such as a heavy braking. The best thing to do is to pump the brakes gently until they disengage and the wheels of your vehicle start to turn once again.

Remember that if you are skidding on ice there may be very little you can do other than take your foot off of the gas pedal and turn into the skid.
