This Is Your First Look At The New Ford Expedition



Following the reveal of the posher 2025 Lincoln Navigator in August, Ford has teased the 2025 Expedition for the first time, with a shadowy image posted to X revealing that the full-size SUV will be revealed next week on October 3. Prototypes have previously been spied on the roads of Michigan, and they’ve provided a pretty good idea of what to expect.

This teaser image does the same, revealing that a daytime running light strip will frame the front grille and headlights. This brings the styling more in line with other recently refreshed Fords like the Super Duty. The Expedition’s headlights seem slimmer than before, and the lower fascia seems more aggressive with two large horizontal intake slots.

What To Expect

Since this is a less expensive version of the Navigator, we can expect a similar split rear tailgate, making loading easier and tailgate parties more comfortable. Unlike the Navigator, however, the Expedition won’t feature the 48-inch panoramic display that handles both driver cluster and infotainment duties. The large portrait-oriented central infotainment screen the 2024 Expedition features is expected to be scrapped in favor of a smaller high-mounted horizontal display, below which physical knobs and buttons will be sited. The driver cluster will move to a long screen recessed deeper into the dash.

The Maverick is better for the Tremor package, receiving more off-road capability without becoming as extreme as a Raptor model. Unconfirmed but logical reports suggest that the rugged Expedition Timberline trim, which replaced the FX4, will also make way for a Tremor variant. This is expected to feature all-terrain tires and possibly F-150 Raptor wheels, along with unique cosmetic touches and off-road-specific drive modes. Naturally, all of these changes will be reflected by a price increase, but at face value, it looks like the Expedition will be more capable, stylish, and comfortable to use than ever.

Powertrains Unlikely To Change

The current Expedition is solely available with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6, again shared with the Navigator. It produces 380 horsepower as standard and up to 400 in high-end trims, with as much as 440 hp available through the available Stealth Performance package. Since the new Navigator produces 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque, the Expedition won’t go any further, but that’s plenty. In the Navigator, you get up to 8,700 lbs of towing capacity, and with the Tow Package, the 2024 Expedition manages up to 9,200 lbs. We’ll see what’s changed and what’s stayed the same next week Thursday. Hopefully, safety will be bolstered, too – the Wagoneer currently outperforms the Expedition, and Chevrolet has updated the Tahoe, so this will be an important refresh for the Blue Oval.
