Assoluto Racing: Subaru S208 NBR '18 @ Tsukuba – 0:49:323

The long awaited anniversary update has arrived! Many improvements to the game have been made, both in terms of physics and aesthetics – hence why the devs branded this as AR 2.0. In this video, I feature the Subaru S208 NBR ’18 – a beautiful modern sports car that I have been anticipating for some time. For those who are interested, I make a few comments about this car and the new physics features below.

Pros: This car is fast. It’s a pity I can’t feature its engine sound, but this car, like most of the Subarus in this game, has a gravelly, badass growl that just gets your adrenaline rushing. Did I mention it’s good looking too?

Cons: It understeers by default, but this is only expected for an AWD car. With the appropriate modifications, it can be responsive around corners as well.

Tune:
TC: Off
ABS: On
Steer Assist: 20%
Diff Accel: 41%
Front and rear tyres: Slick; Pressure: 10
Final drive: 4.32
Anti-roll bar rear: 0.5
Max steer angle: 40
Front negative camber: -2.5

So most notably, the devs have introduced the anti-roll bar feature here. I still need to experiment a bit with the feature, but the tune above works for me. By setting front negative camber at -2.5, it allows the Subaru to be more responsive around corners, but at the same time, it renders the car more unstable (and more prone to weight shifting when cornering). This is where the rear anti-roll bar setting helps – by serving to stabilise the car when cornering. Now, given that this is an AWD car, it is possible that tweaking the FRONT anti-roll bar could assist the car’s performance as well. But I did not do the necessary experiments to see whether that hypothesis is valid.

Feel free to leave comments on what you think about the new physics, and any tuning suggestions as well!
