Turban Built Shelby GT350

When this author unsuccessfully tried his hand at selling cars, I met a dealership technician by the name of KJ (Kiranjit Birdi) who was heavy into the performance car game. It was not out of the ordinary to see KJ elbows deep in an engine rebuild at the dealership, as he was one of the techs relied upon to do some heavy lifting.

As is the case with many people who get their start at a dealership, the performance game eventually led KJ to open his own shop, Turban Built [863.438.0234]. Located in Haines City, Florida, Turban Built is nestled right between Tampa and Orlando, making it a prime spot for performance-seeking enthusiasts looking to improve their standing on the street or at the track.

So, you want to put a turbo kit on your Mustang, huh? Any power adder has a lot of tubes, hoses, clamps, and hardware, but as everyone knows, the results are worth it. Hellion has clear instructions to make sense of all these tubes, hoses, and hardware. However, if you’re intimidated by all this, shops like Turban Built will be happy to make your boost dreams come true.

Once the Hellion kit is installed, there are certain underhood items that are relocated to make room for the turbochargers; however, as you can see, everything fits. There are varying levels of the systems Hellion has available. A complete Hellion turbo kit comes with everything needed to install it. Tuner kits are also available if you already have your own injectors, handheld tuning device, and your own tuner.

Recently, KJ had a customer with a 2017 GT350 looking for way more power. With just 4,800 miles on the car, KJ added a Hellion Power Systems twin turbocharger system specifically designed for the GT350 and GT350R. The Hellion twin turbocharger system features Precision 55mm units, Turbosmart bypass valves, the appropriate wastegates, a dual-inlet intercooler, and all the requisite piping and hardware. The base system, using a stock engine, is good for at least 640-rwhp. That number is good for a lot of people, but not for KJ’s customer.

To go after more horsepower, KJ added billet oil pump gears, a McLeod twin disc clutch, an SCT X4 programmer, ID1300 fuel injectors, and a Fore Innovations return-style fuel system with a triple fuel pump hat and custom lines. Before going after big numbers, the GT350 was treated to a get-to-know-ya tune aimed at daily-driver manners, making 655-rwhp on 6.5 pounds of boost. KJ would like to turn up the boost and go after big numbers, and as soon as we have them, we’ll get you an update.
