General Motors Expands Access to OnStar Guardian App

OnStar Guardian is a recurring subscription that provides OnStar’s key safety and security services through a mobile app.
Anyone in the United States and Canada can download the OnStar Guardian mobile app, which previously was only available to GM owners.
DETROIT – General Motors announced today its OnStar Guardian mobile app1 is now available to all customers in the United States and Canada with a compatible Apple or Android device.
Now, customers without a GM vehicle can stay protected and connected from anywhere and in any vehicle through the OnStar Guardian app. The expansion of OnStar Guardian, which first launched in June 2020, is part of GM’s commitment to focus on opportunities beyond vehicle sales to make the road — and the world — a safer place.
With OnStar Guardian, customers can access key OnStar safety and security services on their mobile device and get help when they need it from an OnStar Advisor. Customers can also share these features with others by adding up to seven additional people to the My Family2 section within the Guardian app.
OnStar Guardian offers Mobile Crash Response3, which uses smartphone sensors to detect crashes and alert an Emergency-Certified OnStar Advisor4. OnStar Guardian also will launch new features this month in Location Status5, including the ability to save and share favorite locations on the app’s embedded map and receive notifications for destination departures and arrivals of family and friends.

OnStar is committed to the safety and well-being of families and their loved ones. To further that promise, OnStar will donate $1 to the Alzheimer’s Association for every download of OnStar Guardian6, starting in the month of June. This donation will contribute to the organization’s efforts to accelerate Alzheimer’s research, drive risk reduction and early detection and maximize quality care and support.
OnStar Guardian is currently available to OnStar members in the U.S. and Canada who are enrolled in a Safety & Security plan. For those without a GM vehicle, a standalone subscription plan is available to anyone in the U.S. and Canada. Anyone can download the app and sign up for the service today through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
