Genesis has released a video that captures the dynamic driving performance of its mid-size SUV, the GV70. In this video, GV70 tried to set the fastest 0→100 km/h acceleration and top speed. The GV70 demonstrated excellent driving performance through its agility and stability in the video for about 1 minute and 20 seconds. The model in this video is the most powerful gasoline 3.5 turbo sports package (with 21-inch summer tires) in the current GV70 lineup. The V6 3,470cc turbo direct-injected engine produces a maximum output of 380 horsepower at 5,800 rpm, and continuously exerts a powerful maximum torque of 54.0 kgf·m from 1,300 rpm to 4,500 rpm. The four-wheel-drive system and electronically controlled suspension support for even better driving performance.
In addition, GV70 houses a total of five driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Custom, Sport, and Sport+ (only Sport Package has Sport+). Among them, the only one that can bring out the performance of the GV70 to the highest level would be Sport+. And with the Smart posture control off, the driver gets to thoroughly control the power.
The test driver in the video completed the settings to bring out the best performance of the GV70 and then pressed the accelerator and brake pedals simultaneously with both feet. Next, the GV70 aimed the fastest record. SUVs like the GV70 are heavy and aerodynamic, so a lot is required to drive faster than 200 km/h. The most important thing is a powerful engine. You also need a drivetrain that can reliably transmit engine power to the road surface, not to mention the aerodynamic design that can take advantage of airflow at high speeds.
The GV70 completed its current aerodynamic performance through wind tunnel tests and simulations from the beginning of the design process. The key aerodynamic elements include the rear spoiler that helps smooth airflow at the top of the body, the front bumper air curtain that reduces airflow resistance around the sides, and the front wheels of the front of the body, and the undercover at the beneath of the body for smooth airflow. Thanks to this, the GV70 is capable of stable driving even at high speeds exceeding 200 km/h based on its maximum output of 380 horsepower.
After exceeding 100 km/h, the GV70 entered the high-speed cruising circuit to measure the top speed. In the curved section, the GV70 accelerated to 200km/h. The GV70, which steadily increased its speed, marked 240 km/h at the end of the straight track at the test site, and then reduced its speed as it faced a curved section.
After completing the acceleration performance and top speed test, the GV70 also proved its excellent cornering stability in the centripetal circuit. As mentioned earlier, the GV70 houses an electronically controlled suspension to minimize the vehicle’s body lean when cornering. And there is more; The GV70 is also equipped with electronic Limited Slip Differentials (E-LSD). E-LSD helps more dynamic cornering by distributing the left and right driving forces of the rear wheels according to the road surface and driving conditions.
In the video, the GV70 showed a stable appearance without disturbing the body movement or slipping even after a sudden change of direction at over 150km/h. An ordinary car might have faced a dangerous situation, such as going off the track.
