Engine Failure Could Cause Over 120,000 Ford Hybrids To Catch Fire



Ford Motor Company is recalling over 120,000 of its hybrid models due to a faulty engine that could lead to fire. The safety recall report reveals that the affected hybrid models include the Escape Hybrid and Maverick, as well as Lincoln’s compact crossover, the Corsair Hybrid.

Number-wise, Ford reported 86,656 units of 2020-2022 MY Escape, 35,501 units of 2022-2023 MY Maverick, and 3,165 units of 2021-2023 MY Corsair are part of the recall. The issue is stemmed from the use of the brand’s 2.5-liter Duratec iVCT Atkinson cycle HEV/PHEV engine. It has a defective block or oil pan that when breached, oil and/or fuel vapor to reach ignition sources, which could result in a fire.
