2023 CarBuzz Awards: Winners Announced

“Toyota’s emergence from the depths of design dreariness has blessed the Prius with a healthy infusion of sex appeal, and that would have been impressive enough for the eco-warrior,” explains Sebastian Cenizo, CarBuzz Deputy Editor. “But with a good helping of performance, an ergonomic cabin, outstanding safety features, and competitive pricing, the efficient hybrid is enjoying wider appeal than ever before. Buying a Prius no longer means you’re a new-age hippie. It just means you’re hip.”

No one expected Toyota to make the Prius cool, but the Japanese automaker defied expectations with a hybrid oozing style, performance, comfort, and, yes, trademark fuel economy of up to 127 MPGe. The standard version is impressive enough, but it’s also available in plug-in hybrid Prius Prime format with 44 miles of all-electric driving range and a combined 220 horsepower.

“The Prius has always been an oddly-styled vehicle that put some people off, despite its incredible frugality and commitment towards saving the environment,” comments Gerhard Horn, News and Features Editor at CarBuzz. “But the latest model is an epic piece of design that’s easy to love and will undoubtedly warm more people to the idea of owning a hybrid or PHEV.”
