De Tomaso P72 Finally Greenlit For Production

Based on previous reports, the De Tomaso P72 will be powered by a V8 Coyote, the same engine you will find in the Ford Mustang GT. The engine will be augmented by a Roush-derived supercharger, expected to make 700 horsepower and 608 lb-ft of torque. Power will be sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

If that sounds familiar, De Tomaso already used a power unit from the Blue Oval in the classic Pantera, including a 5.8-liter Ford Cleveland V8.

The engine will be mounted on a chassis borrowed from the Apollo Intensa Emozione. While that hypercar uses a Ferrari F140 V12, the P72 will stick with the V8. A V12 is reserved for the upcoming De Tomaso P900, along with a V10 engine option.
