Vauxhall is a British brand, but its most famous muscle car came straight from Australia. In later years, you could order the VXR8 with a supercharged V8, but we prefer the 2009 Monaro VXR 6.0.
The Monaro was a large two-door coupe that used the same platform as the fifth-generation Pontiac GTO. In 2009, Vauxhall dropped the 5.7-liter LS1 V8 and blessed the Monaro with the 6.0-liter LS2.
The engine only produced 398 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque, but it was mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The power went to the rear axle, equipped with a limited-slip differential, but that’s not what made the Monaro great.
This is the ultimate car to use if you want to refine your drifting skills. It had a long wheelbase, which meant the car would start sliding progressively and was easy to catch. The linear power delivery of the NA engine also made it much easier to control a slide.
The interior quality was terrible, and the design was dull, but this muscle car had loads of character.
