New Ford Maverick Will Be Much Smaller Than The Ranger

The Maverick is expected to ride on a modified version of Ford’s unibody platform that underpins the Escape and Bronco Sport, but a recent report claimed it will share components with the Ford Transit Connect, including its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 162 horsepower.

The Ford Maverick should debut for the 2022 model year, so there’s still plenty of time for prototypes to start shedding some camouflage to give us a clearer look at the compact pickup’s design. Production will take place at Ford’s Hermosillo plant in Mexico, where the Bronco Sport will also be assembled. When it goes on sale, pricing is expected to fall below $20,000 to make it a more affordable alternative to the Ford Ranger, which starts at $24,110.
