Watch The Hoonicorn Destroy The World’s Quickest Toyota MR2

The turbocharged K20 motor produces an estimated 1,300 hp at the crank and sends its grunt to the rear wheels via a five-speed Quaife sequential transmission. With a weight of around 2,300 pounds including the driver, its deficit of roughly 100 horses shouldn’t be a problem, especially since the car is also running some 26-inch drag tires. Unfortunately, the dusty surface of the strip is proving to be a consistent problem for all these purpose-built competitors that the Hoonicorn is facing, and the MR2 loses by four cars in the first 1,000-foot race. With a two-car advantage and the hit, the result isn’t much different. Even with a three-car leg-up, the MR2 simply can’t put its power down effectively enough to secure a win.
