Lamborghini’s First EV Is A 2+2 GT Debuting 2028

Like much of the automotive industry, Lamborghini has embarked on a quest to electrify its brand portfolio in preparation for a future world with revolutionized mobility. The challenge now is to employ electric power to create vehicles that push performance forward and retain the spirited character and vitality of combustion engine-powered counterparts. In order to tackle this task, Lamborghini is transitioning towards electrification, by first introducing hybrid models. Going from hybrid concept cars to limited-edition hybrid models, Lamborghini made a big step when it hybridized its latest flagship, retiring the 60 years of “pure” naturally-aspirated V12 flagship models with the Aventador and introducing the 1,001-horsepower plug-in hybrid Revuelto.

Demand for the Revuelto is incredible, with its order books already stretching out for 2 years, mere months after its reveal that celebrated Lamborghini’s 60th anniversary as a manufacturer. In announcing this accomplishment, Lamborghini looked forward to its future and the ground that it still has to cover as it moves toward electrification, announcing that its first fully-electric model is due to be revealed in 2028.

The model will be a grand tourer with a 2+2 configuration, a body style that Lamborghini hasn’t offered in decades. As such, its styling, philosophy, and even possibly its naming might reflect that of Lamborghini’s historic past 2+2 grand tourers, or even resemble a design like the Asterion concept car from 2014 pictured above.

As Lamborghini quickly charges towards an electric era, the promise of a new fully-electric model, and the return of a body style that Lamborghini hasn’t made in years are two exciting pieces of news in one. With this announcement and with Lamborghini’s approach to electrification, bold and futuristic innovation and respect for automotive tradition coexist and synergize.
