Ford then pressed the GT into production and planned to make around 1,350 units for special customers. Earlier models produced 647 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque, but in 2020, Ford upgraded the turbocharged motor to 660 hp.
Remarkably, the 3.5-liter motor shares numerous components with the EcoBoost engine found in the F-150. This includes the block, cylinder heads, and even the fueling system. However, the GT has bespoke modifications, including new turbochargers, camshafts, and an aluminum intake manifold.
With the new Mustang GTD, Ford will finally get its chance to bring the iconic muscle car back to Le Mans. We say muscle car, but the GTD has more in common with a supercar. Powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, the hardcore Mustang produces around 800 horsepower and sends its power to the wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
